Message from Cale and Brant

If you have been waiting for an order, we're boxing them up and shipping this week. Without getting into too many details, Brant and I had another person involved with our business. When that person left, passwords were changed and we've been unable to access our website, email, Facebook, and Myspace accounts. After a lot of back and forth, we've regained control. I'm getting caught up with back orders and will be shipping soon. I'll throw in some extras. For those of you who have ordered from us in the past, you know that we're pretty good (we make mistakes like anyone) with fulfilling our orders.
We value our fans and apologize for the lame customer service.
In the next couple of weeks we'll be removing the store section of LDP. We'll still release albums but won't be selling direct anymore.

Thanks

-Cale

Rock artist Brant Bjork, returns with his ninth Low Desert Punk album, Gods & Goddesses on March 26 in Europe (Cargo Records Germany) and March 30 US (Cobraside). The official first single, the intoxicating “The Future Rock” impacts the internet on March 9, with a video to follow shortly exclusively on tour sponsor VANS.com

Gods & Goddesses pairs Brant Bjork, originating from Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Ch’e with producer Ethan Allen, best known for his work with Tricky, Luscious Jackson, Gram Rabbit and The 88 and former tour mate, Billy Cordell of the acclaimed Yawning Man. The Los Angeles based desert-founded rock band—vocalist/guitarist Brant Bjork, bassist Billy Cordell, guitarist Brandon Henderson and Italian drummer Giampaolo Farnedi—recorded

Gods & Goddesses in Los Angeles in late 2009.

The album follows 2008’s “Punk Rock Guilt,” which experienced a career high for the group, which acquired endless reviews in both 2008 and 2009 and with steady worldwide digital downloads. His 2007 release “Somera Sol” and “Tres Dias” have sold fans worldwide. Since, those releases have continued to rock audiences worldwide in both foreign and domestic territories and at Roadburn and Maximum festivals.

Eager to get new music into their fans’ hands as quickly as possible, Brant Bjork is offering Gods & Goddesses album track The Future Rock as a free download for a limited time exclusively at VANS.com

The electrifying live band starts a headlining European tour on March 26. Stops for the festival veterans include Maximum and Roadburn….International festival highlights include the international release date of Gods & Goddesses on March 26.

Brant Blog

Image Hey everybody,
Brant here. Been awhile.
All is good on my end.
Living back in my home town of Palm Desert.
Its nice to be around my family and friends again and now that the summer is ending...
this crazy heat will slowly become a memory.
Wanted to write a little bit about the past, the present, and the future.

As a lot of you know, Dylan had brain surgery just months ago.
Many have personally asked me how he is doing and I’m very happy to tell you that he is recovering well and is super grateful for all the amazing support that has been shown for his challenge.
Cale and myself are also super grateful for all the radness that has been shown these last months.

Moving forward......
We have a lot planned for the tail end of '09 and we’re already getting things in order for 2010.

First things first.
The Jalamanta re-issue is ready to drop. We appreciate all of you being patient.
Once this bad-ass package is sitting in your hands and on your turntable...you’ll know why it took a little time to put it all together. I cant believe it was 10 years ago I recorded this.

Speakin of Jalamanta...I’ve been going to Joshua Tree for the last two weeks
having sessions with Tony Mason. We’ve been mixing the live BBB recording
we literally captured in Pioneer Town at Pappy and Harriet’s last May.
We should be ready to press this bad-boy up and get it to you all sometime
before the end of this year.
My good bro and German soundman, “Banana” mixed down a live recording
of BBB in Berlin last year, Its pretty rad too. Wouldn’t be surprised if we
see some of this recording up on the site for downloads sometime in the future...
So keep an ear out.

I’ve been gettin up every morning...drinking Sicilian coffee and
working on a batch of new songs which will make up my new record.
I plan to begin recording the first week of November. It’ll be another
analog adventure as I’m having Tony Mason bring his tape machine and board
here to my house and we're gonna record it right here.
Literally a home recording. I’m diggin the new stuff...expect a rock slab.
No working title as of yet but I know the record will have something to do with
pirates and mescaline.

I’m also excited to be working with some new guys who happen to be “old bros”.
Billy cordell (Yawning Man) will be on bass and Brandon Henderson will
be workin the guitar. Both are amazing players and totally cool dudes.
Looking foward to you all getting acquainted.

The new record is set for a March of next year release,
which will coinside with a BBB european tour.
I’ve already seen the dates and its gonna be serious.
Finally gonna rock Poland and we’ll be returning to Roadburn as well. Very cool.
Nothing is confirmed but, there is talk of going down to South America
in December. This for me, is something I’ve wanted to do for years and I hope all works out.

A big “right on” to all those who have been ordering
direct from Low Desert Punk.
This is the new trip...going straight to the artist.
We thank you for this. Cale, Marianna, and myself
will continue to do all we can to go straight to you all.
Thanks to all those Down Under who stay up on the trip.
Can’t wait to return to New Zealand and Australia.
Of course thanks to Matte at Sound Of Liberation and Randy at Cobraside.
OK, gotta ease up on the "thanks" or I could end up typing for the
next 3 months.

Oh yeah, one last piece of news, There has been some serious
talk goin on about a posible BBB recording session to take place sometime
in the spring of 2010 in Wales.
Rad.

So...to all...stay tuned, stay righteous.
Later alligators.

Dylan update

Image

Dylan is doing well. He is undergoing radiation treatment and is in good spirits. Our bro Karl Stehn from Australia made a super rad skateboard deck to donate to Dylan and his family. I'm putting it up for auction with the proceeds going to the Roche's. Go bid on this thing and get a one of a kind old school deck!

***UPDATE: Thanks to everyone that bid!

Update August 5, 2009
Brant is leaving tomorrow for NYC to practice with CJ before they take off
for a European tour. If you order vinyl that you would liked signed by Brant,
they will not ship until early September.

When he gets back, he'll mix and master the Live Bros record tentatively
titled: Live...To Fight Another Day. Recorded at Papy & Harriet's by Tony Mason .

Brant will also head back into the studio to record a new album!
Looks like there's gonna be some rad guest musicians. Stay tuned!

The Jalamanta re-issue is going to be insane!
25 page book with all new photography, 200 gram virgin vinyl,
re-mastered from the original analog tapes, and an embossed cover.

On the LDP site side of things, we're busy planning a site re-design to
accommodate a lot more vinyl in the store. We really need to make some space
for new releases and new vinyl so the month of August we're running sales.
All Brant Bjork/Brant Bjork & The Bros releases have been discounted and
I have some eBay auctions happening to move some old (and new) CDs and LPs.

Buy some stuff and you'll be rewarded with an updated Low Desert Punk store with
one of the most insane vinyl stores on the internet!

Email me if there's any vinyl you would like to see me stock in the store.

Jalamanta 10 Year Anniversary Retrospective

Image

Jalamanta was recorded February 1999. To celebrate the anniversary, we're re-pressing it on vinyl. It'll be re-mastered directly from tape, pressed on 180 gram vinyl, deluxe packaging, with a 24 page book with lyrics and liner notes! The first 500 will be signed and numbered by Brant! I'll announce when it goes on sale. Until then, check out this documentary we made about the making of the album. It's a pretty big file so it takes a little while to load but well worth the wait.

Brant's blog

Image Yesterday I turned 36 years old. Do I feel old? Not really. Only
after I’ve been up for two days drinkin’ do I actually feel old. On the
mornings I wake up without a hangover I actually feel pretty good.
However...I do remember reading an interview with the Ramones when I
was about 14 years old, maybe 15. Anyway, I was in high school. I don’t
remember the source...might of been Thrasher Magazine. The interview
was with Dee Dee Ramone. I remember this particular interview because
he mentioned that he was 36 years old...and I thought he was fuckin’
old! Now I’m 36 and in a couple months, if all goes as planned, I’ll
be playin drums, doing some shows in Europe with CJ Ramone, the dude who rightfully took Dee Dee’s place after he left. I think Dee Dee left the Ramones about a year after this interview. My facts could be wrong but Its the feelings that count. Ain’t that a trip? Back when I was 15 I
wouldn’t of thought I’d be doing that. But that’s the way shit works,
huh? Magic.

I got a lot of nice messages regarding my birthday on
Myspace...thank you to all those who went out of their way. My
B-day is march 19th...And I slipped into this world in the year 1973.
I think the Wikapedia thing says I was born on march 16th. But oh well. Maybe I’m wrong since computers seem to be the “end all” of the “new world”. I’m not bitter at the rise of the digital revolution. Just a little exhausted.

So I woke up today feeling pretty good. Had fairly
nice dreams. I think I finally kicked my jet lag from our tour down in
Australia and New Zealand. It’s a trip...going there I was fine, no
problem. Comin’ home....I started to doze off at 8:30. The other night,
woke up a 5 in the morning. Anyway, I was laying in bed thinking about
this book I bought while I was at the airport in Sydney. When I have a
14 Hour flight ahead of me I always load up on the reading material.
So I got this book called Meatball Sundae, by a dude named...um, cant
remember. I’ll have to get back to you on that one...or shit...just
Google the title. So I’m laying in bed thinking about this book. Its a
good book. Its about the current state of the world regarding the
Internet, what it has done to business, culture, etc. And what it will
continue to do in the not so distant future. And, how we can deal with
It. What’s that self-help saying? You cant stop the waves...but you can
learn to surf? Yeah...that’s kinda what this book is all about. So I’m
laying there thinking about this and I couldn’t help but feel a little
depressed. It wasn’t a bad depression...in fact it might be better
described as a frustration. Why? Well, simply because I am most likely
part of the last generation to grow up in the old-world. The old
school. Whatever you want to call it. We grew up with 13 channels on
TV, phones with cords and computers was just some lame class you had
to take at school that you probably ditched half the time. But in
2000, while we were smokin’ doobs watchin’ Spinal Tap...the world wide
web crept into the mainstream and I mean for good. The writer of this
book calls it the 4th great revolution...the industrial revolution
being the third. In other words, this thing changed things and those
things aren’t gonna change back. So if you're thinking about tuning in
turning on and dropping out...you are definitely gonna drop out. Way
out. Believe me...I thought about it.

So the conclusion of my thoughts was this: magic doesn’t exist anymore, mystery is out of style
and the trimmings are more in demand than the steak. Hence the dude’s
book title...Meatball Sundae. See, In the old world, the steak was
what it was all about...now its all about the steak sauce. The
Sundae. Lets take this perspective right in to the world of music
since that’s how I make a living...barely. Music is a commodity like
anything else in business. Its supply and demand...packaged up,
marketed, promoted, and sold to a consumer. This paradigm has been
happenin’ for over 100 years. But this ain’t the trip anymore. Its a
whole new thing now. Today a 13 year old kid has the whole fuckin’
world at his finger tips. The dose is super high now. See, you can't
just make Zeppelin 4 today. You have to make zeppelin 4 the recording.
Then you have to make the Making of Zeppelin 4, then you have to
release the out takes of Zeppelin 4 etc. OK. I’m not saying that’s a bad
thing. There are artists/bands that I have gotten into because I read
a book about them and then went to the music having a more open mind
due to information and semi-fact. That’s cool. But just to play devil’s
advocate, which, where I come from in the desert, is common practice.
It seems that the magic and mystery of rock-n-roll is becoming a lost
art. Bands like Zeppelin were untouchables...unapproachable. Myths and
living legends. Rightfully so. What you didn’t know about Zeppelin was
as important as what you did know. Dig? And as I’ve said before...I was
listening to Black Flag for 2 years before I ever had a proper record
and ever even saw a picture of the band. See...the art...the music
Itself was the cornerstone. It was the sound and energy of the music
that separated Black Flag from Zeppelin. And not necessarily one
better or more important than the other. Mystery and reality
surrounded both. But both bands left much to the imagination when one
approached they’re music/art. I could learn more about a band in 10
minutes today than I could in 10 years back in the day. Good or bad? I
guess is really doesn’t matter. So its info that “they” want. OK. Well
I’ll work on givin’ it to ya. I just want people to understand the
generational gap between those who came up in the old world and those
who never bought a record from a record store back in the 80’s. Its
not that I don’t want to sit in front of a computer for 5 hours...It’s
that I would never even think to do so. The computer...to me....was
just a tool. A tool for communication, a radical phone. But I’m seeing
now that it is...well...almost everything. And everything is what the
people want. I've got a whole new understanding of this new world we’re
living in. I’m not against it....I wouldn’t think to try and deny
something so insanely powerful...but I want to approach it with more
of an imagination. After all...I am an artist. I’m a right brainer...
which is why the digital revolution caught me by surprise. Hey....art
is all about communication. I dig this. And the internet is a serious
road for communication. Shit...I’ve been in touch with people I haven’t
heard from in 20 years this last few months.

I guess all I’m tryin’ to express is how overwhelming it all is. I’m stoked to be a
musician/artist and to have people in this world back what I do. I
really appreciate this...and for what its worth...I’ll do what I can
in this great future to keep those who help support my career more
stimulated...but its important that I continue to respect the “gaps”.
You know...the music is the silence in-between the notes.
Remember kids...although its pretty damn close....Google is not god.
Right on.

Welcome to the new site!

Whats up everybody? Brant Bjork here. Welcome to our new trip from the old world...LOW DESERT PUNK. We are super stoked to get this thing launched and we thank you for checkin’ it out. Ok. So, heres the deal: My long-time vibe partner and soul brother, Cale Bunker and myself decided to really get to the grass roots and set up a new label that totally represents what we do,  what we dig... and who we are. We all know that the music biz, on all levels, is a whole new game for not only the consumers but also for the suppliers and the creators. The technological take-over has brought some interesting changes to some of our day to day rituals. Some good. Some bad. Like everything. With Low Desert Punk, our thing is to get rad with the situation. First... LDP will be releasing ALL of my music... past, present and future... on all formats. Cd, digital and vinyl (right on) and can be purchased right here. Fatso Jetson, part of our desert family and longtime friends, will also have some of their new and old releases available here at LOW DESERT PUNK. And just to make things super rad...Cale and I decided to pay tribute to our vinyl roots by presenting what we feel are classic rock artists/bands that should be heard on wax and should have prime parking in every record collection. We got Black Flag to Funkadelic...So make sure you bounce around the site and check out  the stock. It's heavy.

Of course, it's all about the music...but we will be selling merch as well. T-shirts, hats, stickers, frisbees...(just kidding) and other stuff of the kind. Anyway... thats the deal. Make sure to keep checkin’ the site for all updates and tour info. We’re gonna also add other classic records as we roll so...

Alright. Stay tuned...and thanks for helping us “take the music back”.
